Kokis ("we," "us," or "our"), a registered Vennootschap onder firma (VOF) in the Netherlands (KvK number available upon request), respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your data when you use our mobile application, Kurutu (the "App"), and our marketing website, kurutu.com (the "Website," and collectively, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

We collect information directly from you, automatically as you use our Services, and when you interact with content shared by others.

a. Information You Provide

When you use the App, you may provide the following information:

  • Name and Email Address: Collected when you set up your account.
  • Profile Photo (Optional): If you choose to upload one or use the default image provided by a service like Gravatar.
  • Loyalty Card Information (Optional): Information you upload, such as a loyalty card number and the corresponding barcode image.
  • Invoice Attachment Images (Optional): Images of receipts or invoices you choose to upload for shopping items.
  • Other Profiles Collaborating: Information about the email addresses or user profiles you invite to share a list or loyalty card.

b. Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data (App): We collect information about your interactions with the App, such as features used, time spent, and performance data, using Mixpanel for analytics.
  • Usage Data (Website): We collect non-personally identifiable information about your activity on our marketing Website (e.g., pages viewed, time on site) using Google Analytics to measure traffic and activity.
  • Device Information: We may collect information about the device you use to access the App, such as the device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the Services: To enable core App functionality, such as creating, managing, and sharing shopping lists and loyalty cards.
  • Facilitate Collaboration: To allow you to invite and collaborate with other users on shared lists and loyalty cards.
  • Personalization: To display your name and profile photo (if provided) to you and collaborators.
  • Communication: To send you service-related emails (e.g., account verification, password resets).
  • Improve the Services: To understand how users interact with the Services, troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize performance based on data from Mixpanel and Google Analytics.
  • Security and Legal Compliance: To protect our rights and the rights of other users and to comply with legal obligations, particularly those under Dutch and EU law.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • With Other Users (Collaboration): The shopping lists, loyalty card information, and your name/profile photo associated with shared items are accessible to the other users you explicitly invite to collaborate.
  • Service Providers: We use certain third-party services to help operate and maintain the Services.
  • Analytics: We use Mixpanel for App analytics and Google Analytics for Website analytics. We do not share your information with any other vendors.
  • Data Hosting: We may share data with cloud storage providers to securely store the App data.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, in response to a court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Kokis, our users, or others.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity.

4. Data Storage and Security

We store your data securely using industry-standard measures to protect against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Shopping lists, loyalty card data, and your account information are stored on our servers to enable sharing and cross-device access. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Services or comply with legal requirements. Shopping lists, loyalty card data, and other uploaded content are generally deleted when you remove them from the App or delete your account, unless they have been shared with other users who retain their own copy or access.

6. Children's Privacy

The Services are not specifically designed for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without verifiable parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

7. Your Choices and Rights

You have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it, as further defined by GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), given our presence in the Netherlands.

  • Account Information: You can view, modify, or delete certain personal information within the App settings.
  • Sharing Controls: You control which users you invite to share content and can revoke access within the App.
  • Data Access and Deletion: You may request access to or deletion of your personal data by contacting us using the contact details provided below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe, subject to legal obligations.

8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be stored or processed on servers located outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area (EEA). We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data in accordance with applicable laws, including GDPR.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy within the App or on the Website, or by email. The updated policy will be effective as of the date posted.
